Healthy Dining Out

Does eating out seem like an impossible task?  Whether you are just trying to eat healthier or if you have food allergies dining out can be a bigger headache than its worth.

Here are some simple suggestions.  Check out the restaurant online first.  Many restaurants are incorporating gluten and dairy free options into their menus.  Even California Pizza Kitchen will be rolling out a gluten free pizza soon.

Take the time to educate your server about what you can’t have.  If you make it important to them they will make it important to the chef.

Don’t be afraid to ask for substitutions.  As long as it isn’t premade they should be able to accommodate you.

Order menu items with items on the side like dressings or toppings.  I always order a naked burger and then dress it up myself with onions or mushrooms on the side.

If you are going somewhere that has a limited menu..eat first!  We travel to racetracks every weekend and I always eat first and take a cooler with me full of things I can eat.

Lastly…follow the 90/10 rule.  It’s ok if you can handle it to have treats now and then..10% of the time.  Fries..mini donuts..cheeseburgers..whatever your favorite..it is summer after all!

Happy eating!
